Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE:

Responsible for the engineering, equipment selection, maintenance and reliability programs for the safe and reliable operation of systems and equipment in plants and new construction. Responsible for project planning and management of specific activiites within assigned projects. Assists with troubleshooting and corrective action for plant operations, systems and controls reliability.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recommend engineering, design, selection, purchase and installation specifications for industrial refrigeration, process, robotics, power and controls systems and/or equipment.
  • Create equipment, building and construction specifications and planning, layout, P&ID, control and plan set drawings for plant projects.
  • Faciliate vendor equipment and contractor bids and selection, negotiate costs and purchase equipment for refrigeration, process equipment, control systems and/or related equipment.
  • Manage assigned aspects of construction including hiring and management of building, mechanical / refrigeration, and/or electrical / controls contractors. 
  • Understand and ensure compliance with all applicable codes and safety related to building, operating and maintaining processing, manufacting and distribution facilities.
  • Develop, manage and control specific activities within the broader project to include detailed schedules, execution and budgets.
  • Support the implementation and enhancement of planned, preventative and predictive maintenance programs and analysis and related TPM initiatives.
  • Provide technical leadership to develop and support maintenance and manufacturing strategies to drive improvement to plant KPI’s.
  • Train plant personnel on proper systems, production and equipment operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Identify and supportcontinuous improvement efforts to reduce costs, improve equipment reliability and efficiency, best practice creation and sharing and process and maintenance standards creation and implementation.
  • Assist In Store Bagging Director with manufacturing ready component/ assembly drawings, material specs, B.O.M. and modification/ revision documentation up keep. Provide input for design and upgrades based on historical failure modes.
  • Research and development on technology advancements and applicability/justification for adoption and implementation.

OPERATING RESPONSIBILITIES:

Requires strong industrial refrigeration, process, and/or controls engineering design and troubleshooting skills. In-depth knowledge of ammonia systems and code requirements desirable. Working knowledge of CMMS systems and MRO optimization.  Requires solid project management skills, financial acumen, and motivation of people as well as the ability to instruct hands-on/classroom/individual training in all related technical fields. Industrial engineering and maintenance mangeemnt and understanding of the principles of maintenance excellence (Lean).  Previous experience and knowledge of bulk ice manufacturing is preferred. System failures can cause plant downtime resulting in loss of profit.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports. Supervise project contractors, and project labor associated with area of responsibility.  Indirectly lead plant and maintenance engineers and support operations managers.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree (Mechanical, Industrial or equivalent) preferred or relevant industry experience plus 5 years experience. Must have computer, CADD, project management, CMMS and PLC based programming systems skills. Must be able to create, read and understand blueprints and detailed equipment designs and controls. Prefer intermediate to expert knowledge of applicable building codes and permitting process. PMP certification and Lean Six Sigma experience a plus.


WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.  Hazards involve working around moving machinery, walking on slippery floors, and exposure to extreme temperature changes. A valid drivers license and acceptable MVR is required since this job requires extensive travel. Must be available to work weekends/nights and have on-call availability. Work is conducted in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment. The ability to manage stress, build professional and collaborative relationships, and reason through complex business situations is essential.
