Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Sr. Manager, Distributor/Co-Packer Accounting is responsible for executing the Company’s accounting policies, controls, and periodic accounting and reporting processes related to our Distributor A/R accounts. This position also manages and oversees all distributor and co-packer accounting including invoicing accounts receivable/collections, adjustment processing, and overall reconciliation/reporting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Hire, train, performance manage, coach, and review the activities of a team responsible for transaction level accounting, entry and analysis, and who provide other support for distributor/co-packer accounts. Ensure that journal entries and reconciliations are completed in accordance with the financial close schedule and that deadlines are met. Provide ongoing training, coaching, and performance management to team members.


Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations and account analysis, including transactions such as allocations, accruals, drayage expense and liability recording, revenue billing, etc.


Ensure that the distributor accounts receivable balances are within terms, that collections strategies are in place to balance customer service and meet payment goals, and that the department adheres to all company policies and procedures.


Provide customer support to our distributors/co-packers and provide operational accounting support to the distributors/co-packers as required. Work closely with distributors/co-packers on billing and invoicing questions or other concerns that may arise.


Conduct monthly distributor/co-packer account analysis, including a review of related accounting entries, financial analysis, or other ad hoc reporting analysis and research as needed. 


Prepare and provide recommendations on changes to improve accounting process for this area as well as streamlining of company policies and procedures.


Supports monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting and audit processes as required. Report out Distributor/Co-Packer standard AR KPIs (as agreed with management).


Makes and assumes other duties and responsibilities required or assigned by management.

CONTACTS:

Internal:           Significant contact with field personnel including Plant Managers, Market Managers, Regional Vice Presidents, OCS Department Managers, VP Controller and other senior management.


External:          Regular contact with distributors and co-packers and professional advisors

OPERATING RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is complex with a direct and significant effect on the company’s financial records through proper administration of accounting functions and financial responsibilities. Accuracy and completeness is critical to the proper classification and reporting of transactions.


RESPONSIBILITY FOR PROPERTY, FUNDS AND INFORMATION:

Has access to customer and credit records, vendor records, distributor/co-packer agreements, pricing information, contractual agreements, accounting and financial information, trade secrets, and extensive confidential information. May have access to company funds or assets.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position directly supervises 3-6 subordinates.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting required CPA preferred but not required Minimum 7-10 years of related accounting experience, including 4-5 years of supervisory experience Intermediate to advanced understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) An affinity for daily transaction details and a passion for getting it right.  Strong technical accounting and financial reporting experience. Experience working with accounting systems and process improvements. Experience with system design and implementations a plus. Experience using Microsoft Dynamics AX preferred Advanced MS Suite and Microsoft Dynamix (or similar) skills Good organizational skills and ability to adequately document reports. Strong written and oral communication skills Ability to work with diverse group of contacts at various levels/capabilities.


WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Typical office environment, generally sedentary position using computers, calculators, phones, and other office equipment. This position works in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment. The ability to manage stress, build professional and collaborative relationships, and reason through complex business situations is essential. A valid drivers license and acceptable MVR is required due to this position’s minimal travel requirements.
