POSITION SUMMARY:

The Staff Accountant uses generally accepted accounting principles to ensure compliance with written ledgers and trial balances and other accounting entries for assigned OCS departments and/or field locations.  Interaction may include all departments and functions.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for a variety of journal entries, reconciliations and other daily recording and bookkeeping functions in accordance with GAAP standards and principles, including:

  • general ledger month-end close processes,
  • reconciliation of various general ledger accounts,
  • review and approval of journal entries prepared by field locations,
  • review of assigned OCS & field location financial statements,
  • preparation (or coordination) of monthly journal entries,
  • preparation of various schedules, analysis, etc.,
  • provide support to management, operations, OCS, internal and external audit and the tax department
  • allocations of cost to company locations,
  • preparation or review of periodic accruals,
  • review of monthly accounts payable activity for assigned locations. 

Creates and analyzes ad hoc reports required for operational support; advises operations leaders on opportunities to reduce costs and updates the team on assigned location’s financial trends.


Prepares journal entries that record other transactions such as allocations, accruals, expense and liability recording, revenue billing, etc., effecting all OCS and field locations.

OPERATING RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has a direct and significant effect on the company financial records. Accuracy and completeness is critical to the proper classification and reporting of financial transactions.


RESPONSIBILITY FOR PROPERTY, FUNDS, AND INFORMATION:

Has access to customer and credit records, vendor records, distributor agreements, pricing information, contractual agreements, accounting and financial information, trade secrets, and extensive confidential information. May have access to company funds or assets.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

None – this is an individual contributor role


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A 4-year bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required, CPA is a plus
  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
  • Expert Excel spreadsheet skills; intermediate expertise with Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Microsoft Dynamics AX experience preferred but not required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Conditions vary from normal office conditions using typical office equipment to standing and walking through all areas inside and outside of a plant. Exposure to extreme temperature fluctuations, electrical hazards, ammonia and heavy moving equipment. 

This position works in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment. The ability to manage stress, build professional and collaborative relationships, and reason through complex business situations is essential. A valid driver’s license and acceptable MVR is required since this position requires occasional travel.
